2007 Buckskin Lusitano
~100% Viega lines ~Portuguese Lusitano~IBHA ~ ARHA ~
In their Ancestral homeland [Portugal] the Lusitano horse has long been associated with the art of mounted bull-fighting; but the Lusitano is also a horse of the country-side and has been used for centuries to work the cattle. In America very few people think of the Lusitano as a ‘cow-horse’. Classical Dressage & the discipline of High School are beautiful to behold but I also believe that the true test of a horse is if they can do what they were bred to do. I also believe in this country, the United States of America, that means they should not only be able to compete against other Lusitano’s but also compete with the breed many believe is the best All Around Cow-horse in the world, the American Quarter Horse. That both breeds have such a natural affinity for working cattle should not come as a surprise because undoubtedly some of the Quarter Horse’s ancestors came from the Iberian Peninsula.
So Hansom, his first season competing against International Buckskin Horse Association registered Quarter & Stock type horses in everything from halter, dun factor and performance classes, has held his own! Earning points in Aged Stallion & Dun Factor with only 3 show days and placing!! Earned 2011 Year End High Point Champion-tie Steer Roping- Heading and Reserve Champion Steer Roping- Heeling. Hansom also earned points in Working Cow-horse and Reining.
I’d like to thank the “Wisconsin connection” whom without their input we wouldn’t have gotten this far so fast. From a foal born at ASMOHR Stables in Andes, NY to the Hanson & Oliver family[s] of Cambria, WI for guiding us to Andy Lurvey who started Hansom on his journey as a 3yo under saddle to Matt Davison of Davison’s Duns for adding the finishing touch & showing him. Look for Hansom in the show rings through out Wisconsin in 2012!! Please stop by Stallion Alley and see this beautiful stallion & inquire about his inaugural breeding season in 2013
