Drill Team

Midwest Renegade Dare Devils

Described as an “equine dance” on horseback, an equestrian drill team is essentially the same as a drill team on foot except that all performances are arranged on horseback. There are also some drill teams who perform with horses under harness. Complex, synchronized movements and patterns are choreographed to music. The horses and their riders move as one, demonstrating great skill and horsemanship.

A drill team routine takes numerous hours of planning, practice and rehearsals. The teamwork and precision comes through the dedication of the drill team members.  Drill team riding is beneficial to the horse because it advances the horse's training by practicing rating of speed, changes of gait, obedience to their rider, all within a group of other horses. The riders also benefit from the requirement to listen to directions, build teamwork skills, and bond with their horses while guiding them through the maneuvers.

Always a very visual demonstration, the music, costumes and patterns combine to create an exciting and impressive exhibition for spectators.
